2020 Running Clinic
Train to run a 5km, ‘from couch recline, to the finish line’. NO running experience is necessary, just a will to improve your fitness. Prepare for this year’s Diefenbooker Running event which will be held May 2, 2020. This clinic is free with your registration in the Diefenbooker.
We will meet at the West Carleton Athletic Club (upstairs in the meeting room) , 3832 Carp Rd., Carp, Tuesday, January 14 at 6:30 to hear more about what will be offered at this clinic that will be held every Tuesday 6:30 until March 31. Information on training, running form, strength training will be provided. Don’t miss out on this golden opportunity to feel healthy, strong and mentally refreshed.
On January 14, for those who are interested in the running clinic and want to stay after the info session, we will be going out for a 30 minute brisk walk around the village to loosen up our legs, chat and get to know each other. Dress for the weather, wear running shoes and have a head light for this walk and chat.
Bring a friend or 2, 3 …. or a family member. The more the merrier.

2020 Walking Clinic
Join the walking clinic in preparation for the Race! It is a great way to incorporate walking into your life! If you are somewhat active (gardening, housework, etc.) and without significant health issues, the walking group is for you. We are walking enthusiasts who will provide ongoing encouragement to enable you to walk 5 km in less than an hour, improve walking posture and form, and to finish the Diefenbooker 5 km walk feeling energized rather than exhausted.
This is a 10 week program. Over the 10 weeks you will build up your fitness level and your confidence to be able to walk the 5km event at the Diefenbooker Race. We will train together once a week on Wednesday evenings, at 6:30.
At week 1, we will walk for 15 minutes. You will be expected to practice this three times during the week by yourself. As every week progresses the walking time increases. During the course of the 10 weeks, we will work on proper posture, the use of the arms, and form and techniques. As your fitness increases, we will do some training on hills and some exercises to increase our speed. On the final day of the clinic, we will walk the actual race course, so that you know what to expect on race day. You will be amazed at how easy it seems.
Think about joining us! Above all else we have fun, and we will provide friendly motivation along the way. It doesn’t matter if you are new to walking or need some help getting started again, we’d love the walking company!

To register for the Walking Clinic, simply register for the Diefenbooker 5km Walking event online, and then come to the lobby of the W.E Johnston Arena on Feb 26 at 6:30 pm to be ready to start your 10 week Walking Clinic. Come ready to walk (wearing running or walking shoes).
